Mission Statement


Our mission is to create Caring And Responsible Learners (CARL) by Developing Engaging Methods Of Reaching Every Student Today. Students are our priority, and we believe that they must be given engaging work that is challenging and meaningful. Demorest Elementary is a place that has a warm, friendly atmosphere where a love of learning is developed.  Faculty and staff members team together with the parents and community to provide quality learning experiences for all our children. Our lions strive to be the best and take pride in being at the top!

School Characteristics

Demorest Elementary School is a public school for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. We are located 76 miles northeast of Atlanta in the city of Demorest. Our school is part of the Habersham County school district in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The state of Georgia and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools have continuously accredited Demorest Elementary. The Georgia Accrediting Commission also accredits us with quality. Demorest Elementary was recognized as a Title I Exemplary School at a ceremony in Atlanta on May 11, 2007.

 


Demorest Elementary is centrally located and houses many countywide special programs. Our school accommodates kindergarten through fifth grade along with the Odyssey class (emotional behavior disorders), the severe/profound class and the Discovery classes (gifted students).


About Our Faculty and Staff

Demorest Elementary currently has one administrator and an assistant principal. Our school has four classrooms in grades K-1 and six classrooms in grade 2. In the intermediate grades there are five third grade classes, three fourth grade classes and three fifth grade classes.

Additional Certified Staff
Among the additional certified personnel are: an art teacher, a music teacher, a physical education teacher, two full time and one part time (49%) special education interrelated teachers, one shared speech/language pathologist, two special education self-contained teachers.  A K-2 Literacy Collaborative coordinator, an intermediate Literacy Collaborative coordinator for grades 3-5, a Reading Recovery teacher leader, two additional Reading Recovery teachers and one part-time (49%) Reading Recovery teacher, an EIP teacher, an ESOL teacher, and a library media specialist. The school also has a full-time counselor available to all students.  

Support Personnel...
includes a media clerk, a physical education instructional assistant, four full time and one part time (shared by all speech therapists in Habersham County) special education instructional assistants, four classroom instructional assistants, and a part time nurse.
